Physical symptoms of anxiety
Various physical symptoms can clearly show when one is anxious. Such physical changes vary from one person to another. They can be feelings of nausea, tensed muscles, dizziness or a light headache, faster breathing and thumping heartbeat, increased blood pressure, difficulties in breathing and churning of the stomach. Others experience panic attacks, sweating, and hot flashes. Some even go to the toilet severally. Physical symptoms can be extensive and can slowly graduate to cause long term effects.
Anxiety can also affect one’s ability to think and act under different circumstances. Some of the psychological changes may include feeling numb, being restless and incapable of concentrating and nervousness. An anxious person also feels like the world is slowing or speeding up and have a feeling that all the other people know they are anxious. They tend to fill their minds with negative thoughts. Some even think of one situation from time to time. They undergo catastrophizing and obsessive thinking which is accompanied by fear and worries.
When someone changes their behavior instantly, the chances are high that they are anxious. Such behavioral changes include avoiding social gatherings, feelings of depression and rise of relationship problems. Fear, anxiety and worries make one feel upset; therefore, they try to avoid situations that can lead to stress.
Types of anxiety disorders
Common types include agoraphobia (fear of places that can give rise to panic), selective mutism, separation disorders, social phobia, specific phobia, substance-induced disorders and unspecified disorders among others.
Signs and symptoms of anxiety are clear and vary from one person to another. It can interfere with one’s day to day life. It is advisable to see the doctor in case one experiences the symptoms.
